AUCTION ITEMS

"Hiker’s Lake"

An original acrylic landscape on 300 lb. arches paper. The painting size is 22quot; x 30quot;. "Hiker’s Lake" is a classic San Juan Island scene.

About the artist: Sam Connery’s landscapes and seascapes have been exhibited at galleries in Palo Alto, Santa Fe, Bellingham, LaConner and Friday Harbor. Recent work can be seen at Island Studios. Sam’s painting approach could be described as casual realism. Driving to various places around the island, he looks closely at the beaches and headlands, the meadows and hills, the meandering lanes and weather-beaten barns. He often sketches on site, and occasionally an entire painting is nearly completed on location. Others are done in his studio from the sketches and from photographs.

Created and Donated by Sam Connery. Value $975.

"Island Childrens’ Tree"

Created by island children at a workshop with CATS members. In addition to the children’s ornaments, there are nutcracker ornaments unifying the look of this pre-lit, artificial tree.

Donated by CATS. Value: priceless.

"Arctic Raven"

Renowned Kwakiutl artist and woodcarver, Erich Glendale made this wooden raven bowl from yellow cedar. It has a deeply carved design done in the Kwaguilth style. Erich was born in Campbell River in 1972. He is from the Tanukteuk band of Alert Bay located on Comorant Island, which is off the north-western side of Vancouver Island.

Donated by Arctic Raven Gallery. Value $750.

"Day in Toyland"

A tour for six of a special and private classic car collection as well as the owner’s unique toy collection. The day begins with limousine pick-up by "Jeeves," followed by wine and appetizers during the tour, and closes with a light dinner with the hosts. To end the day, Jeeves will return you to your homes.

Donated by Maryann and Dave Spurgeon. Value: priceless.

"Sun Peaks Sojourn"

Whether you choose to spend your week in late spring, summer or early fall (offer good between May 1 to Oct 15, 2007) you will be in one of the most beautiful areas of the west coast. The well-appointed and beautiful 2-bedroom, 3-½ bath townhouse sleeps six (there is a sofa bed in the downstairs family room) and is located at Sun Peaks Resort, BC. Included in the amenities are a hot tub, family room, fireplace and outdoor deck with a BBQ and incredible view. Just some of the area’s activities (at your own expense) are hiking, fishing, swimming, canoeing, bike camps and tours, and even ATV tours.

Donated by Mickey and Bill Wright. Value $1,200.

"Wild Stag Leaping"

Inside this unique lacquered bowl is the image of a stag that seems to be caught in mid-leap. The bowl has been turned from island willow found at False Bay. It is signed by the artist. About the artist: Bruce Westmiller is a local craftsman and artisan who enjoys spending part of his free time turning wood. Working with the island woods, particularly madrona, willow and alder has been interesting and challanging. Spruce, maple, cypress, Norfolk Pine and African ebony are other woods Bruce likesworking with.

Created and Donated by Bruce Westmiller. Value $750.
